Art From The Turtle’s Back
Toronto, Ontario - JL PHILLIPS GALLERY, in partnership with Yorkville Village, is proud to announce an upcoming collaborative art exhibition "Art from the Turtle's Back: Indigenous Artwork from Coast to Coast," showcasing the rich diversity of styles, mediums, and cultures from across Turtle Island. The Exhibition ran from October 10th to October 24th at The Oval and The Gallery on the Upper Level in Yorkville Village, located at 55 Avenue Road in Toronto, Ontario.
In collaboration with Gallery On Queen of Fredricton (N.B.), Bear Paw New Media Productions (N.B.), Unorthodox Yukon, Whitehorse (Y.T.), and Highness Global, Toronto (ON). The Exhibition brings together a remarkable collection of contemporary Indigenous artists from across Canada. The artwork on display encompasses a range of multidisciplinary mediums, including sculptural works in copper, silver, quill, and beadwork, as well as paintings on canvas and birchbark, and visual media.
The Opening Night took place on October 10th, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Several of the artists were present at the Opening, including Brian Francis, Audrey Arsenault, Autumn Smith, Alexis Nanibush, Nyle Miigizi Johnston and Megan/Guna Jensen along with light catering by Dashmaawaan Bemaadzinjin, "They feed the People".
Featured artists in the exhibition include Autumn Smith/Mishiikenh, Alexis Nanibush/Pamajewong, Nyle Miigizi Johnston, Michelle Sound, Jean Taylor, Adanchilla Pauls, Megan/Guna Jensen, Heather Dickson, Cohen Quash, Randi Nelson and Violet Gatensby. We also exhibited artists from Gallery on Queen's annual Wabanaki exhibition, including Brian Francis, Audrey Arsenault, Marcus Gosse, Nancy Oakley, Gary Sanipass, Chan Polchies, Pauline Young, and Charlie Gaffney. This was the third year running in Yorkville Village for this monumental exhibition.
